Allie Haze
Allie Haze: preparing a screen performance
Her interviews describe practical work around a performance, from learning lines to choosing the character’s appearance.
Theatre before professional films
Haze said she participated in school theatre and travelled to competitions involving monologues. She also worked with an acting coach when she was younger.
In her 2012 interview, she connected those experiences with enjoying the acting in her later film roles. Performance was an interest she had developed before her professional career.
Scripts, costumes and the day’s work
Describing her studio routine in 2012, Haze said she read the script and discussed which scenes would be filmed first. Hairstyles and makeup were chosen to fit the material.
B. Skow was her main collaborator at that stage. She described working regularly with the same group, sharing ideas and knowing about roles before arriving on set.
Research for a character
While preparing to play Dana in a Clerks parody, Haze said she watched the original film repeatedly and kept reading her script. Costume, style and casting were among the matters she discussed with the director.
In her later interview about Lost and Found, she remembered friends working together on a small-budget production. She said they were committed to the story and to depicting something that could happen in everyday life.
